Bear

Our big boy Bear has been with us 6 months now and has become a very loved member of the BARN family.

When he came to us, he was very quiet and subdued but he very quickly got used to Barn life and his cheeky personality started to shine.
He is often seen at different events with our manager Glenn and he absolutely loves the attention and cuddles from everyone he meets.

Bear is a Central Asian Shepherd. In his native country, this breed is used for hunting and protecting livestock, because of this it is common practice for dogs to have their ears and tail docked soon after birth

The docking has caused Bear to have numerous, severe ear infections. Over the last few months he has been to the vets nearly every week for ear flushes and treatment.

A few weeks ago, he had to have surgery on his ear but unfortunately this and the medication he’s had hasn’t worked. Bear doesn’t seem to be in alot of pain but with the state of his ear, we don’t know how he can’t be.

The staff at Rathgeal Vets have been absolutely amazing with Bear but it is thought that his quality of life is now being compromised and euthanasia has been discussed. We have also had a second opinion from a specialist ENT vets.

We all adore Bear and will not give up on him without doing everything we can for him. We have booked him in for a CT scan next week to see exactly what damage has been done and then a plan of action will be made with our vets. The scan alone will cost around £2,000.
