Fudge

Fudge is an adorable, 8 month old Chocolate Labrador who joined our BARN family a few weeks ago

He had recently been diagnosed with Hip dysplasia and severe muscle wastage in both hips.
Unfortunately his owner didnt have the funds for the the operation that was suggested to them and were advised that euthanasia was the best thing for Fudge.

His family were absolutely devestated and handed Fudge over to us so we could help him. This really wasn’t an easy decision for them so please, no negative comments.

We attended Earlswood clinic on 8th August for a second opinion and we really didnt know what to expect!

We were very relieved to hear that Fudge does not need surgery at the minute. It is thought that Fudge will improve over the next few months as he grows and scar tissue and muscles form. Hopefully this will help steady Fudges hips and he will be reviewed again at 18 months old.

Fudge doesn’t seem to be in extreme pain at the moment and euthanasia is definitely not needed.

We are very grateful to Elaine who offered to foster Fudge long term where he can be more comfortable and we can keep a close eye on him until his review. He will need Hydrotherapy sessions, approx every 4 days to help his muscles and give him he best chance of having a good, pain free life in the future.

Fudge really is the sweetest boy. He just loves cuddles and tries to play but he cannot stand or walk for long periods without having to sit down. We would love to see him having the life he deserves- Jumping into the sea and going for long forest/beach walks!

If you would like to help with Fudges ongoing care, we would be very grateful.
